WRAP works with local authorities, businesses and households to prevent waste, increase recycling and develop markets for recycled and sustainable products.
Over the next three years, we will work with our partners to deliver three headline targets:
WRAP works across a range of sectors:
Agriculture and Horticulture – We are working with farmers, growers, crop consultants, product suppliers and growing media manufacturers to grow markets for compost products, and to establish the Quality Protocol for Compost.
Construction – The construction industry remains the single largest user of material resources in the UK economy. WRAP will continue to work with Envirowise, the construction sector and its supply chain to help broker commitments to halve the amount of construction landfill waste by 2012.
Local government – WRAP will continue to offer technical support for local recycling collection and home composting services, as well as extending the range of support to include interim management and mentoring. We will work with organisations like the Local Government Association and the Regional Centres of Excellence to make the most of our support.
Manufacturers and reprocessors – WRAP will direct existing expertise on materials and products to larger waste streams and difficult materials, prioritising plastics, glass, paper and wood. We will also maintain our primary concern for the quality of materials reaching the marketplace.
Recycling and waste industries – WRAP will continue to provide a Business Development Service that offers financial, marketing and technical advice and resources to business. Alongside capital grants our accelerating growth Fund, we will continue to help businesses in the sector through our successful eQuip residual value guarantee scheme.
Regeneration and landscaping – WRAP will continue to promote the use of compost in brownfield and major landscaping projects, by working with partners including key landowners and developers, landscape architects, contractors and product suppliers, and specialist developers, house builders and regeneration companies.
Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SME’s) – Due to recent legislation, the significant rise in Landfill Tax will see the emergence of more commercial recycling services to SME’s. WRAP will ensure that the legacy of demonstration trials, good practice guidance and marketing materials are available to service providers.
Third Sector – WRAP will work with partners in the third sector, including REalliance CIC, to develop a programme of support to enable service providers to gain access to investment, and identify and build innovative offers, such as reuse and waste prevention services.
Individuals – WRAP will continue to engage with the public through its national home composting, Recycle Now and Love Food Hate Waste campaigns.
